Volume 2, Issue 1

On a Personal Note

Dear MELISSA,

I know we talked about emotions last month

And emotional intelligence is to follow,

But first we CELEBRATE.

You see, one year ago I published the first issue of my newsletter.

I kept my commitment to publish each month no matter what.

This is an accomplishment that I need to acknowledge.

It was scary putting myself out there in writing,

Not knowing how anyone would receive it.

I did it anyway.

It's an ongoing learning experience, with all sorts of challenges.

I did it anyway.

I don't know about you,

But I fail to take time to celebrate my achievements, small or big.

I just tend to move onto the next thing.

Yet, I wouldn't consider letting others get away with this.

I've made a promise to celebrate more

For it is so important to appreciate ourselves.

Acknowledgement keeps us motivated to continue striving,

Especially during the challenging times.

So in the spirit of walking my talk and leading by example,

This issue is all about celebration.

What will you celebrate this week or month?

I'd love to know, so that I can celebrate with you!

Blessings of a life well lived,

Melissa

Cloudy With a Chance of Celebration

Run, leap and celebrate for you are alive today! ~ Bryant McGil

Stop and Smell the Roses

Celebratetransitive verb.  1. To honor an occasion.  2. To commemorate or rejoice in some positive occurrence or something pleasant that happened.  3. To show admiration for someone or something.

Celebrating is a form of expressing gratitude.

A moment to recognize progress, some milestone or cultural observance.

It's a show of appreciation for something of importance.

The idea is to bring more joy, appreciation, and thankfulness

For the good stuff in your life- the things that are working.

Celebration brings balance to the challenges you face in life.

In turn, by indulging in joy, you are refueled and motivated

To keep striving and growing.

Whether it's a first such as your first anniversary of sorts

Or a final such as retiring from something,

It took effort, even blood, sweat and tears, to get to that point.

Most find it easier to celebrate and acknowledge others,

While often desiring more reciprocation.

But appreciation from others often starts with you first appreciating yourself,

Then others reflect that back to you.

There are also those who skip most celebrations all together

And find themselves feeling more stressed, overwhelmed, isolated and burnt out.

Participating is celebrations supports your well being and resiliency.

Celebration can be a simple recognition of a milestone met,

An intentional act that acknowledges your accomplishment and feels good.

Cool Resource

People of our time are losing the power of celebration.  Instead of celebrating, we seek to be amused or entertained.  Celebration is an active state, an act of expressing reverence or appreciation.  To be entertained is a passive state-- it is to receive pleasure afforded by an amusing act or a spectacle.... Celebration is a confrontation, giving attention to the transcendent meaning of one's actions.
~ Abraham Joshua Heschel

Celebration by Kool and the Gang

One of my favorite songs: Celebration by Kool and the Gang.  Yes, I know this dates me, but it's got such a great dance beat!  "Bring your good times and your laughter too.  We gonna celebrate your party with you..."
